Looking After Your Memorial

What we do, in plain English.

A Cuimhne memorial is often bought during the hardest part of someone's year, and it holds things that exist nowhere else — photographs, voices, stories. You deserve a straight account of how it works, what your rights are, and what we can and cannot claim.

This page describes what we do today. It is a description of our current service, not a promise about the future.

What you are buying

One laser-engraved plaque in marine-grade 316 stainless steel, and access to a hosted memorial page linked to the QR code on that plaque. One payment. There is no subscription and no renewal fee on our current pricing.

Your legal rights

Your rights as a consumer are set by Irish and EU law, and nothing on this page limits them.

Under the Consumer Rights Act 2022, goods we sell you must be of merchantable quality, fit for purpose and as described. If your plaque arrives damaged, or the code does not scan, contact us with your order number and we will sort it out.

You also have a 14-day cooling-off period on distance purchases. Because each plaque is engraved to order, this applies where engraving has not yet begun. Full detail is in our Refund Policy.

The download feature

You can ask us at any time, free of charge, for a complete archive of your memorial — every photograph and video at full resolution, every story and contribution. It arrives as a folder that opens in any web browser, on any computer, with no internet connection and no Cuimhne software needed. It is not locked inside our software — it is ordinary web, image and video files, readable by any computer.

We think this is the single most useful thing we can tell you: download your archive and keep it somewhere of your own. A copy on your own computer, or given to your children, is not dependent on us, on any hosting company, or on any technology staying in business.

What we do not claim

You will see memorial products advertised as lasting forever. We will not say that, because no business can honestly promise it, and we would rather be straight with you than sell you a word we cannot stand behind.

To be clear about the limits:

  • We do not guarantee that the hosted memorial page will remain available indefinitely, or that the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. It depends on third-party hosting and on Cuimhne continuing to trade.
  • We may change, suspend or discontinue the hosted service. If that happened, we would give families as much notice as we reasonably could, and the archive would be made available for download.
  • We do not warrant that data on the hosted page is preserved, backed up, or recoverable by us. The download feature above is how you protect your own copy — we recommend using it.
  • We are not a data escrow or archival institution, and the hosted page should not be treated as your only copy of anything.

Our full terms, including liability, are set out in our Terms of Service, which govern in the event of any inconsistency with this page.
